Pestana Dom Joao II Beach & Golf Resort

Hotel is situated a few metres from the sandy beach, plenty of free sun beds. Walk back to the hotel to large garden areas and a pool. Hotel is clean, rooms better than many hotels.breakfast and lunches good. Staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is a short walk to Alvor. Only fault we found was the beds were “lumpy” mattress was past it’s sell by date. Would recommend for a relaxing holiday.

This was our 4th visit to the hotel after a break of five years and it was lovely to be back. Hotel spotless, breakfast very good with lots of choice. We took the three meal evening choice but found the food cold especially the first night. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The gardens are a great option and sun beds always available. It’s about 15 minutes from the hotel into Alvor which was no problem for us and the walk along the boardwalk in the early evening was most pleasant. Alvor itself is a lovely place, brilliant restaurants and great atmosphere. We look forward to returning in the near future.

We had an amazing trip to Alvor Portugal in August. The hotel really was 5 star! The reception we received was very welcoming and helpful. The room was perfect, the staff were all amazing and went out the way to make our stay fantastic. The pool area was brilliant, lots of sun loungers and space to relax. The view of the beach made the stay even better. Can’t wait to visit next year!

We had an excellent 10 day stay here at the end of June and found it to be very enjoyable. Great facilities and very clean, the staff were very helpful, it was in a great location (right on the beach boardwalk) whilst there were plenty of loungers around the pools and garden area (kept immaculately!). Only minor gripe was the lack of a double bed (we had two singles shoved together). Otherwise a great hotel and we hope to return very soon in the future.👍

We always stay at this hotel, there are so many things that are great about the Dom João, the staff on reception are so helpful, kind and so lovely. The dining staff are always polite, smiley and helpful, the housekeeping ladies are also very helpful and lovely. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. In the breakfast area this time we were very pleased to see the addition and new mugs, much better for me to hold and easier to carry. Staying at this hotel enables me to walk into the village as it is an easy walk, no hills its straight forward. I really could not see us staying anywhere else when we visit Alvor and we visit alvor at least 4-5 times a year where possible. Keep up the good work everyone.

We stayed here for a week half board. We have been here several times in the past although not for about 6 years. Because of the lovely gardens & excellent position on the beach it is our favourite hotel in Portugal. This holiday was part of my 80th birthday celebrations. The food was good especially breakfast (I love the freshly prepared fruit every morning).We had a sea view room which was a good size but not enough drawer space. The weather was glorious & there were always plenty of sunbeds although for the first 2 days of our stay parasols were in short supply. I just wish the outdoor pool was warmer as it was much too cold for my old bones! As keen nature lovers it was great to see how much the board walk has been extended making the walk to the nature reserve so much easier. We were a little disappointed with the evening entertainment but as we went to bed rather early after all our daily walks that was not a real problem. We will be back.

Location fantastic! Great views from balcony in room. Lovely pool / bars. Very close to beach. Food ok. Bathrooms need updating. Evening entertainment just a singer every night. Not all staff are great. Watch out for touts - including hotel ones trying to sell you timeshare!

Wonderful hotel location right next to the beach. Eating in the restaurant is disappointing because hot food is never hot - usually lukewarm. Breakfast cereals are a very poor choice. Muesli often unavailable.

You get what you pay for, restaurant / terrace service is very poor . Do not play Alto golf course is in decline and there is a lack of buggies. Staff blame management for this situation. Gramacho on the other hand is very good and a pleasure to play.

Although the decor now seems dated and tired it is a lovely hotel and gardens, in a great position behind the beach and within walking distance of Alvor Centre via road or boardwalk (a stroll along the Alvor boardwalks is not to be missed)

Needs updating, more management control in dining room , to make sure hot food,e.g breakfast never any fried eggs ready then someone put six in fryer at a time so big queue formed if you asked for omelette took about ten minutes only did one at a time but pancakes were kept being done and piling up and many times burnt. The staff should all know if you have a accident book not just management .

This is a good hotel. The pool and garden area are spacious, no trouble getting a sun bed. Direct access to the lovely beach. The staff were all helpful. Rooms, although not large were sufficient size, clean and well equipped. The only downside s were no hairdryer or drink facilities in the room and the hotel really needs to sort out its meal warming , the hot food is not hot and in fact on several occasions was in fact cold

I am back a few weeks from this hotel so relaxing and in a great spot a few steps from the great beach.hotel was spotless bed linen and towels changed every day if you needed them. Great breakfast so much to choose from .

Just returned from the above hotel it is situated in beautiful grounds and has an excellent position beside the beach. My main concern was the food was not up to standard.The breakfast was the same every day and they wouldn't even cook a fried egg, only omelette and hard boiled eggs. No bananas either. The evening meal also had little choice for the main course and I don't think they got the concept of "Show Cooking" which is what they advertise. However, the soup was really good. Also no dress code here. Most guests I spoke to only booked bed and breakfast. We would not return to this hotel on a half board basis.

Hotel is in a great location right beside the beach and view is spectacular and rooms are spacious. The breakfast is good as long as don't want fried eggs don't quite understand that have been to the hotel three times and you could get fried eggs. They actually make pancakes and omelette to order when I asked for a fried egg they seem to make them but saying that there is quite a good choice for breakfast. I wouldn't go half board again as the food was absolutely terrible left sitting from the start of dinner service and not very warm nothing tasted great and the salad bar was not great no cold meat or fish to go with the salad. Waste of money going half board so I would avoid it and stick to bed and breakfast. The hotel bar is not great for choice either have been asking for Bailleys for three years and still haven't got it yet and I don't think I would be the only one asking but I think the most bizarre thing was getting a gin and tonic and they only had very larger plastic bottles of tonic strange.
