Synagogue

Synagogue

The synagogue in the western walls of Diocletian’s Palace dates from the 16th century. Originally a Christian church, it was adopted as a place of worship by Sephardic Jewish refugees from Spain and Portugal. The black and white marble ark and inner sanctuary is the most sacred place of worship as it faces Jerusalem.
