Paris city breaks

They say holidays to Paris are always a good idea and they’re not wrong. Art, fashion, gastronomy, culture – this oh-so stylish city sets the bar alright. From the iconic Eiffel Tower and Gothic grandeur of Notre Dame to the elegant Louvre (bonjour, Mona Lisa) and strolls along the Seine, there’s a bumper list of bucket-list sights to get through. When you’re not sashaying down grand boulevards, looking out over romantic rooftops or rummaging around an antiques market, nosy round the neighbourhoods. The Left Bank is the stuff of literary legend, neon-lit Pigalle is home to the glitzy Moulin Rouge and the regal Right Bank is all Chanel this, Louis Vuitton that. Then from old-school to too cool, Le Marais’ dark cocktail bars are the place to be seen. As for the city’s cuisine, windows piled high with patisseries, bistros made for people-watching and opulent dining rooms are the heart and soul of Parisian life.
Endless attractions

Endless attractions

Bucket list at the ready – it’s time to see some of the greatest sights on the planet. Sip champagne at the top of the Eiffel Tower, see artistic treasures in the Louvre, take selfies outside Notre Dame and admire the grand Arc de Triomphe. And don’t miss Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris’ ultra-pretty manicured park.

Even if it’s dark, there’s still plenty of time to fit in more sightseeing – view the Eiffel Tower lit up in all its splendour, then head to the nearby Champs-Élysées. One of the world’s most iconic shopping streets, it’s lined with authentic bakeries, master chocolatiers and designer boutiques that stay open into the night.

Paris has a district designed for every need. Le Marais is thriving with vibrant clubs and bars, while Montparnasse has a Bohemian vibe made famous by the impressionists. For dining delights, the Latin Quarter houses informal bistros. Head to Montmartre for street artists and fabulous cafés.

Arcs, towers, shapely museums – you’ve seen the films, now see the sights for yourself. Eating and drinking
Foodies, you’ll be in heaven here. Candlelit bistros, steamed-up cafés, Michelin-star eateries, pretty patisseries – Paris has got the lot! Look out for terraces hidden down side streets, particularly around Montmartre and the Latin Quarter, for the best places to eat. Street food’s big here too, so expect stalls selling epic ham baguettes, freshly shucked oysters and finger-licking crêpes.

Shopping
Keeping in step with its glamorous reputation, Paris amazes with the chic boutiques of the tree-lined Champs-Élysées that ooze effortless style. Why not visit Le Bon Marché, the city’s oldest and most famous department store, lavished with luxury labels? For scenic shopping, the River Seine bookstalls are always interesting, and markets are never far.

Getting around
Wide boulevards, pedestrianised throughways and plenty of roadside parks make it easy to wander around. To see the city from the water, jump aboard a Batobus along the Seine and hop on and off at regular river stops. You can buy a single, a day pass or a bunch of ten tickets.
