A blast from the past
The city’s ancient amphitheatre, circus and necropolis are all up there with the best of them. Dating back to the 2nd century, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were on the set of Gladiator when you step into Tarragona Amphitheatre. In fact, you might catch a Roman re-enactment if you’re lucky. And don’t miss the huge Gothic cathedral and the many museums.
Wow, what a view
For eye-popping snaps you can’t wait to show off, make sure you swing by the Balcony of the Mediterranean. The ornate iron railings along this elevated viewing platform frame the most wonderful sea vistas.
Fishy dishes
Think port, think seafood. Paella’s a classic we know and love, but try the local bluefish or arròs negre – squid ink rice – for something a little more regional. Head to the fisherman’s district of el Serrallo for the best choice and bags of atmosphere.
