Medieval beginnings
Like lots of places around these parts, Lazise’s roots go way back to medieval times. Creaking towers and castle walls dominate the scene, while the network of narrow alleyways below hide away dinky delis, sweet gelaterias and pavement cafés. Be sure to bag a bottle of the local extra virgin olive oil when you’re out and about.
Plenty of photo ops
Brightly-painted boats match the brightly-painted houses that line the water’s edge, giving the harbour a bit of a Venetian look. Have a nosy around the fading frescoes inside the Chiesa di San Nicolo while you’re here too. Pick up the pretty promenade to take in panoramas across the lake. As you wind your way around the water, keep a look out for a few grand old villas along the way.
That’s entertainment
If you like your attractions on a cinematic scale, then make time for Movieland. This Hollywood-themed park promises film-based fun for all ages with its roll call of thrilling rides and live-action shows. Gardaland is another favourite, and it comes complete with hair-raising rollercoasters, a Sea Life Centre and a new Peppa Pig Land. But if you’re more the spa sort, there are some thermal lakes nearby where you can sink back and relax.
