This small fishing village on the south-west coast of the island is the ultimate choice for a chilled-out Greek getaway. Life here centres around the pristine, three-kilometre sand and shingle beach where you can sunbathe and soak up the rays or grab a fancy cocktail and enjoy the sea views.
Much of Lesvos is lush and green and has a real paradise-like feel to it. There are great hiking and walking routes if you’re up for the challenge or if you prefer lazy days, why not seek out one of the hidden-away thermal spas? You’ll not be far from the capital either, which makes it ideal for a day trip.
Sample the seafood
Fish and seafood are big around these parts and when it’s caught fresh that day and served in the seafront tavernas, it would be silly to miss out on trying it. You’ll see local fishermen bring in their catch, including octopus which is hung out to dry before cooking. There’s also a handful of traditional restaurants along the seafront if you fancy a Greek feast.
