Beachfront bliss
Puerto del Carmen boasts the island’s biggest beach, Playa Grande that runs alongside a vibrant, shop-filled promenade. You’re sure to find a spot on the sun-soaked sand or pull up a pew in one of the bars and restaurants. If you want to try somewhere different, you’ve got two more to choose from – Playa Chica, a dinky swimming bay and Playa Pocillos, a surfer’s paradise.
Seafront vs Old Town
Get ready for every type of nightlife here in Puerto del Carmen. Stick to the seafront promenade, Avenida de las Playas, if you’re a fan of karaoke bars, clubs and Irish pubs. Prefer seafood restaurants and cocktail bars? Head for the whitewashed streets of the Old Town instead.
Nearby volcanoes
Dramatic scenery, this way! Yep, Timanfaya National Park is about 30 minutes’ drive from Puerto del Carmen. Once you’re there, hop on a bus tour along the crater’s edges and stare straight down into the volcanoes. There’s a restaurant up there too – the must-try special has to be the chicken grilled using heat rising from beneath the ground.
