Occidental Menorca

We stayed at this hotel for 11 nights in May. We'd stayed in Punta Prima before and it is great for young families as quite, easy to get to and everything is walkable. It is however VERY quiet. Overall we had a great holiday. The positive points: - the family room was excellent; loads of room, 2 bathrooms, and great for a young family with a 7 month old and 4 year old. Beds aren't the comfiest but you get used to it. - the entertainment staff made the holiday. Luca and the entertainment crew were second to none. They made my lad George feel special and that he'll always remember. Also the kids club ladies were fantastic with him. Very positive and an area the hotel does extremely well in. - Bar service was great and never had to wait long. Francisco in particular always had a smiley face and made my boy laugh. - night time entertainment was good for the nights we stayed up for. - the complex is large and you felt like you had a good amount of space. No sunbed wars. Negative / development points: - the food was average. We did struggle with our 4 year old as there was no set area for kids to choose from. A lot of below average meat served and I will eat most things. The Mexican night was really good but in the 11 days, that was the only one that really stood out. If you want 'easy food', the pool bar food was really tasty. - the kids pool area is in separate grounds to the main hotel. Probably not a problem in summer when they open things up, but in May the only thing open there was the kids area and pool. The bar wasn't so being all inclusive and wanting a hard earned 2pm beer, you had to trek back to the main hotel. Not sure this was made clear to us when we booked. - the timings of things is a bit late for a young family. Dinner didn't open until 7pm, with mini disco being 8.30pm which we thought was late. It may be that due to us juggling 2 children on 2 time zones (baby and 4 year old) but most hotels we've been to in the past has been disco around 7.30pm. - for a 4 star hotel, the grounds looked a bit shabby. Maybe it's me expecting more from a 4 star hotel but considering we went at the start of the season, we thought it would be fresh and ready. I noticed things like weeds growing in all of the pathways and buildings that needed a lick of paint. Looked a bit tired, like us with the baby. Overall, had a great holiday as a family but would want to see the development points rectified to stay again

Following previous visits to other hotels in the Barcelo group, we expected Punta Prima to be of similar standard. This hotel disappointed. In our opinion, the hotel needs to find it's identity, is it a boutique hotel or a package holiday hotel? In our two week stay, the staff favoured the short stay all inclusive guests. Food and entertainment was on a one week cycle and paying for anything cash was frowned upon. Time around the pool was constantly interrupted by guests wheeling cases to and from their rooms. Restraunt was full of flies and food uncovered. Not good!! Rooms small and little storage. Only one drink offered at dinner. Come on Barcelo/Occidental, you can do better than this. Make your mind up what you want to be.

ideal location, 30 mins transfer, 3 mins walk to beach, shops & restaurants nearby if you want to eat out we did once for a change. Hotel has helpful staff, loads of choice for food. Good drinks on offer.

Lovely clean hotel and extensive grounds, all well maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lots of activities for the energetic! This hotel seemed very popular with French families but people mixed well. Lots of 3 generation families which was lovely to see.

This hotel was listed as 4*Plus but our room was very basic and the bin in the bathroom had not been emptied from the previous occupant. The food in the restaurant was very poor, meat was grisly and tough. Vegetables were soggy and overcooked but the main complaint was that everything was luke-warm, nothing was hot. Tap water was hot in the main hours but if you wanted hot water at 7am or 10pm the water in the washbasin was barely warm. Staff were friendly and, if you like a drink, there is a clear menu of what is available on an AI deal.

We had a week here and everything was perfect, you could be mixing in with games or just sat arround the pool. There was some noise from the rear of the building during the early hours but not much. The wasps arround the poolbar irratated some people. The kids club was first class as was the games area across the pathway. We booked the a la carte there and it was a really nice taster menue outside although the weather let us down a little. The bus into Mahon 1_70 euros just across the road, if you need something just ask reception they couldnt do enough to help. Our (3 over 60s) only problem was we like to play cards on an evening and there wasnt any card tables. Minor problem, all inclusive great holiday we will return.

Nice enough hotel. Food good enough, rooms fine. Nice pools. Plenty sundowners no getting up at the cracker of dawn with towels! Good entertainment team. Short walk downhill to beach. Bus stop across the road with regular buses to Mahon.

Lovely family orientated hotel especially for smaller children but had plenty of outdoor facilities to accommodate older children. Would say that it's not really an older persons hotel unless on holiday with younger family members. Excellent choice of food. Comfy room and an excellent walk in shower as requested. Plenty of wardrobe space but could have done with some more drawer space for our smaller items.
