Quinta Splendida Wellness & Botanical Garden

Would say the hotel is 'good' rather than 'very good'. It's a lovely hotel set in beautiful, well-kept gardens and we found the staff to be very friendly & helpful. We particularly liked the fact that it wasn't a high-rise hotel and instead was built in a more traditional style over two floors. We booked B&B and the found the breakfast choices to be excellent. Generally, the room was good & clean although the original room we were given was not as requested as the hotel had no record of my requests that I had given to Jet2 when booking. Fortunately, they were able to find my husband and I an alternative room which was on the ground floor and overlooking the gardens as we originally wanted. Unfortunately, the patio (shared) was very small and had no sunbeds. No problem getting sunbeds around the pool, though. Please be aware there is no a/c but we hired a fan at extra cost which was a god-send. We were there in Sept 2022 and two facilities within the hotel grounds were closed - eg. The Globe bar & La Perla restaurant, although the Jet2 website still says they are available. Therefore, only the Galeria and Thai restaurants (housed in the same building) were available for evening meals. The Siddhartha bar, though, does serve casual meals up to 6pm and provides evening entertainment (at no extra cost as we were led to believe, I’m pleased to say) & bar facilities. This didn't bother us too much as we preferred to go out of the hotel to eat in the evenings. There are a number of restaurants in the village. We particularly liked Central & PDT (mainly due to the good, friendly service). We ate in the Galeria restaurant in the hotel one evening and it was okay. There are good bus services close to the hotel. The bus stop to Funchal is positioned outside the bakery (on the right when leaving the hotel) and the one down to the sea is located along the side road directly opposite the hotel entrance. I think that road is called School Street (Rua da Escola, I think it is in Portuguese). You can get a copy of the bus timetable from reception & also book trips from there, too. We really enjoyed our holiday in Canico, so much so, that despite the hiccups, we have booked to stay there again this December. I have ensured that Jet2 have sent our requests to the hotel and just to make sure, I am going to email the hotel with those requests so that I have a written record of it this time!

The holiday was chosen on the basis that this was our chosen hotel, and we found a tour company which offered it. If anything, it exceeded expectations. We chose a Garden Studio with breakfast. In fact the facilities were such that we could easily have self catered. We had our own little garden with loungers. Service was excellent. Breakfast was also excellent, with a huge choice each day. The 2 dinners we had there were slightly disappointing. Their highly rated gourmet restaurant is, sadly, currently closed, as was the main bar. Extremely quiet in the evenings. The pool area is beautiful, the pool itself still a little chilly in June. We were the only Brits in the hotel, and frequently had the pool to ourselves! The garden in which the hotel is situated is stunning - in our view more beautiful than Funchal's Jardim Botanique! Canico itself is a pleasant little place, with 3 restaurants, all of which we tried. There is a frequent bus service into Funchal from just outside the hotel, costing 2.20 Euros each way. Buses return at intervals until nearly midnight. This is not a hotel for beach lovers, but for us it offered a great combination of leisure and culture.

Quinta Splendida set in a Botanical Garden is a great place to relax with a great ambiance.The rooms are comfortabke and are set out to ensud=re privacy. There is a good choice o]f restaurants and bars with helpful friendly staff. The food is good with a wide choice. The resort has a spa offering a choice of treatments.

Beautiful complex but very quite staff all very helpful food was excellant with plenty choice would return again.Canico is a small town with very few bars not much nightlife has a nice cafe in middle of square where you can watch the day go by local bus service just outside complex gets you into Funchal in less than 30mins.

Beautiful botanical gardens and sea views. Excellent accommodation and friendly service. Spa facilities also lovely. Comfy beds too. Worth the upgrade to garden apartment as I could sunbathe in my own garden or beside pool, whichever took my fancy! Lovely place. Quiet local town but enough cafes and restaurants. Easy and short trip into Funchall if you prefer more lively choices and shopping. Sightseeing trips amazing.

Lovely gardens. Very relaxing. Very helpful staff. Nice big rooms. Comfy bed. Decor not the most modern, but very serviceable. Handy kitchenette. Location very convenient for local town & shops/restaurants.

The hotel is set within beautiful botanical gardens and our room had a lovely balcony overlooking them. The room was basically but adequately furnished and very quietly situated. The restaurant provided excellent and varied food and all the staff we met spoke excellent English and were very charming. There was a courtesy bus three times a day into Funchal. We cannot fault this hotel in any way.
