The 11th century San Giovanni del Toro church has a crypt with frescoes of Christ and the apostles. The church is known for its pulpit decorated with mosaics, one of Jonah and the whale. This design of the pulpit inspired the Dutch artist M C Escher’s interlocking patterns when he visited Ravello in the 1920s.
