Garda
This handsome town is a colourful fishing village and a great base for getting around the region. Did we mention it gets some of the best sunsets in Lake Garda? Along the eastern side of the lake, this is a resort full of charisma and little features to discover. Potter by the promenade and pitch up to people-watch with an espresso by the banks of the water.
Conveniently placed on the eastern side of the lake and with a transfer time of just over an hour, Garda town is a popular base that’s brimming with character. Wander along the pretty promenade and grab a seat outside a café to stare out at this mighty mountainous area. If you’re looking for peaceful lakeside hangouts, then this is the resort for you.
Bag a bargain
Meander the stalls of markets and see local produce in the masses. From clothes and crockery, to gifts and antiques – who knows what delights you might uncover?! See if you can sniff out some great value leather, too. Restaurants, bars and even dainty churches are also calling.

Lovely hotel in beautiful grounds with lots of activities. Great Olympic size swimming pool, with plenty of sun beds around the pool area. Food was ok. Good breakfast, evening meal you order the day before. Choice of starter & main plus a good salad bar. Only negative I found with resort was complimentary mini bus to & from Garda was too small. Only an 8 seater. 12 or 16 would be better for such a large resort.

Great hotel for families
21 Aug 2024
Great hotel for families - the family suites are very spacious for 4 people including 2 older teenagers. However be prepared for a very steep walk especially if you’re in the top block. If you ask reception they’ll whizz you up in a golf buggy if needed - once Fabio knows you he’ll always look out for you!
Don’t relay on getting on the shuttle bus - although improved this year there are a lot of guests waiting for the small people carriers. Glad that this year though they put a couple on at busy times and ran them all day so was much better than previously. We found that there weren’t any taxis around or long waits when phoning so plan ahead or hire a car. This year we hired a car and it was so good to have the freedom. Pool and sporting facilities are good (though the pool bottom was broken/jagged and our sons’ feet got all cut) but there were lots of sport clubs staying so half the pool is out of use for a large part of the day as was the tennis courts - did mean our boys didn’t use the facilities as much as they wanted to.
Food is nice enough but limited choice and having to choose the night before can be a pain - not really what you’d expect for a 4 star hotel. Overall it’s great though for a family holiday and we’ve been 3 years in the last 7!

Lovely holiday in lake garda
07 Oct 2022
Lovely hotel with brilliant views. Free shuttle to garda, can walk takes about half an hour. I would have liked the shuttle to run a little later at night. You can swap your evening meal to lunchtime which is great. Then you can eat out, try something different and enjoy the atmosphere in Garda itself. It rained one day and if you wanted a snack you had to go down by the pool, maybe an idea to put sandwiches, chips a bit nearer so you could sit out on the balcony. Great service from staff esp louigi, Viorel, Igor, Slim and Alessio. One older man with glasses was very rude, but others were very nice. We definately would return

One of the best holidays we have ever had.
06 Sep 2019
We had a wonderful holiday in Garda and the Poiano Resort was excellent. Exceptional and friendly service from all the staff, comfortable rooms and some great facilities including a very nice pool.
The hotel resort is located about 5 minutes drive from the town of Garda and lakeside, there is a free shuttle service but at busy periods expect to wait as the mini-busses are only 9 seaters, they tend to run two at these times but it isn't always quite enough.
The food at the hotel is excellent, we were staying half board and the buffet breakfast had everything we could have wished for. The dinner is generally ordered the night before from a set menu of three choices, for us as vegetarians we had to ask for two first courses or two second courses instead;one night they made us a very nice omlette instead of the meat course. Saturday night is buffet night which was ok but we preferred the set menu days. There is also a buffet style salad bar and desert bar every evening... you will not go hungry.
Be careful of taking lunch in the hotel restaurant, it is in my opinion rather expensive. Instead perhaps try the local pizzeria which is walking distance away or go into town where there are lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. Also, drinks and extras such as poolside snacks are of course booked out to your room so expect a bill at the end of your stay (which will also include a travellers tax).
If you have children then they may enjoy some of the activities the hotel put on such as archery, pool side games, tennis etc. There is a games room with a pool table, table football, none of the arcade games seemed to be working.
The bar in the hotel is nice, most evenings there is live music (solo performers). The waiters and waitresses are all very nice and incredibly helpful.
If visiting Garda again I would certainly stay at the Poiano Resort again. Highly recommended
As for Garda, it is a beautiful little town with easy access by road or boat to all the other towns around the lake and surrounding areas. The bus service in the area is excellent and will allow you to visit many other parts of the area at little expense.
If you do choose Poiano Resort then I am quite sure you will not be disappointed. I hope you enjoy your holiday as much as we did !!!

A bit of a disappointment
16 Jul 2018
We stayed at this Hotel for 10 nights half board.
Positives
Clean
Lots of sporting activities
Things to improve
Comfort of sun beds just basic plastic beds
We lost some of the pool twice a day due to a swim team which was not previously advertised
Food was ok lacked flavour
We felt staff could be friendlier
Lacked a variety of wines at a reasonable cost
Shuttle bus was really disappointing as you have to queue in the full sun and it got a bit tense some mornings as the shuttle was not frequent enough
The resort is really too far from Garda and at night all taxis and buses stop early and we were left having to walk for 40 minutes up the hill after a visit to the Opera.
We felt the charge for clean pool towels was unfair
Pool bar food very poor and on the whole not very healthy
The size of the bedrooms not suitable for a family of 3 it felt very cramped

Two glorious weeks in Garda
07 Jul 2016
This hotel is set in very good grounds in a holiday village. The buffet breakfasts are superb with a variety of cooked, fresh fruit, tinned fruit, pancakes, cakes, cereals, a good variety of fruit juices and hot beverages. Dinner consists of three courses with a choice of four meals per first and second course and a very comprehensive self service sweet buffet. The hotel has an excellent 50 metres swimming pool. A free shuttle minibus service is provided to take guests into Garda although it only takes about 35 minutes to walk.

Family Hol May 2016
21 Jun 2016
This hotel is a little way out of the resort but because of this benefits by being in fantastic grounds. The pool is great, although was fairly cold in late May. Restaurant /bar/reception staff were friendly and gave excellent service, food was of a good quality. The hotel would benefit from a more frequent or additional shuttle bus service into Garda as there were times especially in the morning that it was in high demand and you had to wait. Some rooms are up a very steep gradient, which in turn afforded us a good view, however if you have mobility problems it would be an issue. Overall we would recommend and enjoyed a lovely week here.
