Koukounaries
Translating to pine trees in Greek, Koukounaries takes its name from the perfumed pine trees found throughout the village. It’s relatively small in size, so you’ll have everything you need right on your doorstep. Think a golden beach, quaint restaurants and natural beauty spots just waiting to be explored.

We have stayed at many hotels in many countries across the world and have to say that Skiathos Palace Hotel is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Great service, great food, great location. Highly recommended

Great Holiday
12 Jun 2024
Second time at this hotel and unusually for these days I thought it had improved. The staff were really good and friendly. The cleanliness was always top class and constantly been attended to. Unfortunately the hotel is over six floors with no lifts. They do ask people to inform them of any mobility issues but as the pool and reception are on different levels it could be challenging. We had no issues but others may have. The pool area is really nice. Great bar serving food and drink and no issues getting a sun bed. The view from the pool deck and bar is absolutely stunning. The trade off for the excellent views is the beach is down a steep hill and very tricky steps. There is a curtesy bus to and from a beach however which is free from the hotel. The beach is one of the best on the island and was the main reason we returned to this hotel. There are some bars and restaurants within walking distance but it’s quite a way and up hill on the way back. It’s a struggle if not impossible to get a taxi for short trips around the hotel as they are all based in Skiathos town. There is a local bus that runs from the beach passed the hotel to Skiathos town. It’s two euros each way and runs about every 30 minutes. Great for visiting town and runs up to midnight. If later it’s about 18 euros in a taxi which takes about 15 minutes. The hotel runs a free bus to town but need to book in advance as it gets busy. We had a few meals in the hotel. Breakfast was usual buffet fare and was ok. Three evening meals in the buffet restaurant were all very good. As we like to eat at different venues we didn’t eat much in the hotel but we had no complaints with any meal we had there. There is a restaurant above the bar that costs extra and requires booking but we didn’t use it on this visit. Rooms were nice and cleaned daily with fresh towels if required. We paid a bit extra for a sea view which was nice but spent more time at the bar than sat on the balcony. I think there is a range of rooms so not sure if they are all the same but ours were good and never heard any complaints from other guests. Fresh pool towels available every day from the small hotel shop. Some good walks in the local pine woods if you get bored on the beach. Skiathos is a stunning island and this hotel is great. Hope I haven’t put anyone off as I just wanted to post an honest review.

I gave 4 stars due to being placed in a room with a brick wall for a view! Very disappointing! But, hotel responded to our request for a room change. It is a lovely hotel, friendly staff, good choice of food. It is placed on a hill, but if you aren’t keen on steps, hills they do offer a courtesy bus to/from beach, also to Skiathos town which is a short 15 min journey. No lifts. Next to a most beautiful beach. A very satisfying stay despite hiccup. I will return.

If all you expect is a view you’ll be happy

We booked the Palace hotel having stayed in Skiathos many times and also admired the position of the hotel. The reviews looked pretty good and so we went for a standard room with a sea view.
First room we were allocated smelt damp in fact you could see damp on the outside of the room door, damaged furniture poorly decorated and not particularly clean either. Asked for a move due the condition took 3 days.
Second room slightly better but had a broken fridge for 4 days.
Standard of the room still really poor as was the house keeping standard which was just awful.
You could here people around the pool discussing the various issues they were having and it seemed to be a pretty common issue in that the rooms were just awful.
Top tip if you must book here don’t go for half board the food in the main restaurant buffet is like something from the 1970’s in fact if you took away the odd flat screen TV a time traveller from 1972 would feel right at home
Last thing to mention is the service at best it’s hot and miss at worst the staff come across angry and rude.

Nice hotel. Friendly staff and felt safe.

Just come back from a week at this hotel, to which we have been previously. Nice to read before we travelled that had received the appropriate certifications on Covid measures. The staff were friendly and room was certified as Covid cleaned. albeit starting to look a little bit tired and need of a refresh. Meals were in the open air by the pool because the weather permitted that, so it felt safe eating there also. Sunbeds were appropriately spaced apart both by the pool and on the beach below. Service was very good. Airport experience at Birmingham and flight/transport with Jet2 in resort also felt very safe.
