Elysium Resort & Spa

Overall we thought the hotel was great, fab pool area, room was great. Food was excellent. Reception staff always willing to help and book taxis when asked. We had a late flight on our last day. As check-out was 12:00 noon, we where then allocated a room later in the day to change before travelling to the airport. There was some waiting time at night to get a table outside but we never had to wait longer than 10-15 minutes. No issues.

The hotel was great, very clean, lovely pool and grounds, food very good. A couple of bad points. The price of the drinks is way too overpriced. It was 8 euro for a very average glass of wine (not a large). 11 euro for a glass of prosecco. You do not get any water with your evening meal and so have to buy that each time at 3.80 a bottle. The food in the snack bars was very good and the staff were great but again expensive. The pool is brilliant however there are parasols all around the pool and they are permanent features that can not be put down. This means you constantly have to move your sun loungers if you want to be in the sun and there is little room to do that. Overall lovely hotel but not really worth the money we paid.

Beautiful Hotel, with main restaurant service and staff second to none. They just couldn't do enough for us. Fantastic. Pity this wasn't the case in the room cleaning department. Cleaners could hardly understand English, and frequently overlooked the replenishing of milk and sugar in the coffee making department. On separate occasions a bath towel and ash tray went walkabout and had to be called for. Also a day's cleaning was dodged. In our view this brought our rating down to 4 star, not 5. Meal-wise was OK, but we have had better food selections elsewhere. It speaks volumes when one night the buffet included good old lamb chops - which noticeably disappeared after the first wave of certain early birds. Come on - YOU know who we're talking about! Expensive bar prices succeeded in keeping the nightlife deathly. Never saw more than 4 people at any one time in the piano bar. Genuine efforts were made re entertainment at the beach bar, but again the bar tariff reduced the atmosphere and merrymaking to a very subdued 3 out of 10. But I guess that suited the '5 star' clientel. We've stayed at many 5 star hotels on our travels, but never come across such a joyless and unsociable bunch of stuffed designer shirts. Comprising chiefly of arrogant and unsociable Germans, Russians and Japanese in dire need of courtesy training and smile counseling. Oh well to each to their own. This hotel was no doubt perfect for their needs, but as lovers of life we won't be back in a hurry. Once again thanks to the great restaurant staff.
