Wellness spa is clean, relaxing, with range of services. Meals were tasty and full of flavour. Compliments to the chefs. Hot and cold drinks are free with breakfast but you have to pay for them at dinner. Multilingual staff. Predominantly German tourists making this the dominant language after Croatian. Many of the staff spoke English fluently. Location. Flat rock beach, marina and main shopping area within walking distance or option to take tram like train for 20 HRK. Resort has good access for those with limited mobility. Ramps, lifts and walkways are wide with handrails. Room key cards are used to open/close main entrance to residential room complex. Free lockable safe in room. Room 504, double bed, shower no bath, balcony with view of front of resort entrance. Room not deep cleaned on arrival. Floor and tiles of bathroom walls had stray hairs. Specs of blood were on the chair (which I was so disgusted by I removed instantly with anti-bac wipes) and blood on curtain! Main door mechanism looked as though it had been forced open. The bathroom door handle and lock were broken. Spoke to reception about this and was told it would be fixed/cleaned. It wasn’t, until our Rep later raised the issue. We were asked if we wanted to change rooms, which we were prepared to do, only to find it was smaller with less storage areas, no table and poor view (room 525). So we stuck to initial room, spoke to Pamela on reception and she made sure the blood-spattered curtain was replaced and the bathroom handle and lock repaired. Thanks. Also, room had cobwebs on the ceiling, no amenities such as shower cap, iron, kettle or tissues. If you like a bath towel, bring your own, as the towels are small. Thin walls. You can hear guests next door, bit weird to hear someone peeing for Britain. The gym is small and only open from 8am to 8pm. Breakfast ends 10am so you may need to rush. Gym should be open from 7am. Overall, would I return or recommend Sol Umag? No - due to budget style room and negative attitudes of Croatian people to black tourists… although the staff were pleasant enough. I expect a certain standard when quoted as staying in a 4 star resort. I believe the inflated rating is mainly due to the spa and quality of food.
