Medplaya Hotel Calypso

Hotel was lovely staff were friendly food not so good sometimes we walked in to the restaurant and back out lots of food but not to appetising not to good entertainment cleaner's done a excellent job wouldn't go back

Stayed here at the end of August with wife and 2 kids age 3 and 9. We couldn't fault the rooms, dining facilities, food, entertainment and staff. Overall a very nice stay and a good location with plenty of shops etc and the beautiful beaches not far away (easy walking distance). First time in Salou but will definitely return. Only a couple of things which were a little disappointed by: Every evening the sunbeds were stacked away leaving the areas around the pool clear to be cleaned, however, unlike at all other hotels we have stayed at, we never saw any cleaners out at night or early morning cleaning these areas meaning a lot of litter was left lying around. The pool itself was always cleaned and tested regularly though. There is a little shallow stream between the main pool and the toddlers pool. This was empty during our stay (not sure why). It again didn't seem to be kept clear of litter and looked a little worse for wear. It either needs refurbishment and having water in again for the kids to paddle or filling in completely. Lastly, in the pics of the main pool water can be seen cascading from one of the rocks in to the pool which looks really pleasant and the kids would of loved it. However, during our stay the waterfall wasn't working which was a little disappointing. None of the above really had any major impact of our enjoyment of our stay, just things for the management to consider. Management should however be very proud of the restaurant staff, the entertainment team and the cleaners who do the rooms. All were very good.

The revamped rooms were very pleasant, the overall hotel was OK, it had a few issues. I would say that this hotel is in need of more staff, the pool areas were also in dire need of a good clean.I am not saying that I am a snob but other Spanish hotels that I have stayed in the pool areas were always spotless. We have now stayed in this hotel on 3 occassions over a period of about 10 years & I can say we have noticed a big difference, the bar staff were very pleasant & accomendating, the Matra D' on the dining room was very polite & always welcomed you with a smile. The food was OK but not a massive selection, but we cannot complain as we always found something to eat. The Entertainment was average, seen better a couple of the shows were decent.

I just Love the "All Inclusive"Deals I get when booking through JET2. Sadly although I can as usual congratulate the hotel and Restaurant management I found it very annoying to have to queue up every time I wanted a "Top Up" glass of wine. I asked if I could have a bottle that I could enjoy throughout the afternoon. I had written in advance to the hotel and explained I was disabled and requested a room on the first floor. Regrettably they didn't get my letter but put me in a standardroom which made it difficult to climb into the bath and be very careful using the shower unit. To add to my problems I slipped and broke my wrist! and when I got home my local hospital took care of me.with a plaster cast. Overall just be aware that you'd be asked to pay for a bottle of wine!Carl Gresham

although we had a lovely room that was the best thing about the hotel... the restaurant wasn't big enough for the amount of guests in hotel, food on floor wasn't getting cleaned up, staff could be overheard being rude about guests and the food was terrible.....the pool area and outdoor entertainment area were not clean there was always rubbish lying about I even watched two staff who were supposed to be cleaning the tables for the evening and probably wiped down about 5 or 6 out of 200 very lazy staff.......book somewhere else

The 5th time I've stayed at the Calypso, which says it all really. Why change from a hotel you like. Good choice of food, polite reception staff. You can choose whether to have your room cleaned daily or not. A bit noisy with loud music from outside after 11 pm and can hear furniture screeching on the floors both above and from the sides of your rooms from next door rooms, but a minor grumble. Entertainment was rather average during the week, with a planned entertainer being replaced at short notice by a lady singer who couldn't sing very well.

the beds are very comfortable, shower is good, staff are friendly, plenty of food (and CAVA in the morning). The guy doing the fitness by the pool was very funny and entertaining. Our daughter loved the programmes for children during the day and they have entertainment for the kids before the evening shows (that is happening every day so bit noisy until 11pm). Close to beach, shops, restaurants, bars and 10 min bus ride from water parks and Portaventura (you are given a travel card so bus is free).

Had an amazing time here.Entertainment was second to none and the facilities were fab for my 7 year old boy. We will definitely visit again. Only critiscism would be provide a welcome pack on arrival.

Entertainment staff were great, hotel was clean and tidy but dated, the only issue was it was very noisy at night trying to get sleep with little ones due to a lot of teenage groups staying but overall good value for money, booked 1st time with her 2 and they were excellent would definitely look to go with them again.

Whilst the hotel room was very nice ,food was just ordinary and look warm ,but the biggest disappointment was the system for AI drinks 🍷 we had to all queue one side of the bar like cattle and be serve all drinks in plastic glasses ,yet if you were half board you went the other side of the bar got served straight away and got a proper glass ... not for us shall not be returning .
