Puerto del Carmen boasts the island’s biggest beach, Playa Grande that runs alongside a vibrant, shop-filled promenade. You’re sure to find a spot on the sun-soaked sand or pull up a pew in one of the bars and restaurants. If you want to try somewhere different, you’ve got two more to choose from – Playa Chica, a dinky swimming bay and Playa Pocillos, a surfer’s paradise.
Get ready for every type of nightlife here in Puerto del Carmen. Stick to the seafront promenade, Avenida de las Playas, if you’re a fan of karaoke bars, clubs and Irish pubs. Prefer seafood restaurants and cocktail bars? Head for the whitewashed streets of the Old Town instead.
Dramatic scenery, this way! Yep, Timanfaya National Park is about 30 minutes’ drive from Puerto del Carmen. Once you’re there, hop on a bus tour along the crater’s edges and stare straight down into the volcanoes. There’s a restaurant up there too – the must-try special has to be the chicken grilled using heat rising from beneath the ground.
Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote
Sprawled over 4 floors, the modern Biosfera Plaza Shopping Centre has stores, amusements and restaurants all under one roof. It's the place to go for clothes, swimwear, toys and gifts. Men can refresh their wardrobe at Timberland, while the ladies are catered for at Zara.
Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote
Playa Chica is a delightful small bay enclosed by natural formations of lava. It has a lovely small beach, with fine golden sand and calm warm waters. It's great for water sports, in particular diving, because under the water you'll find some spectacular seabeds and secret corners, including a shrimp cave.
Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote
Playa Grande is the busiest beach in Carmen due to its central location. It's equipped with excellent facilities, including a seasonal sports area, showers, toilets, lifeguards and a parasol and sunbed hire service. A huge variety of restaurants and shops line the main strip behind the beach.
