The ancient city is split in two these days. There’s Kato Paphos, the newer part right on the coast, which has a cluster of beaches backed by a wide promenade. Then there’s the old town, a few kilometres inland. Here’s where you’ll find winding, cobbled streets and traditional tavernas.
Paphos’ beach is a wide, sandy stretch topped with sunbeds and a gentle slope into the sea that makes it really safe for paddling. It also comes with a few cafés and a stellar view of the sunset. Further afield, there are secluded beach havens and little sandy coves to explore.
Paphos is known as the birthplace of the Goddess Aphrodite – and the original city is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend a day or two exploring ancient ruins, like the 12th-century BC temple or the Tombs of the Kings – staggering mausoleums carved out of solid rock.

Alykes beach is easy to get to and has everything you’ll need to enjoy the sun and sea. You can hire sunbeds and umbrellas to relax, unwind and enjoy your holiday read. And with lifeguards on duty it’s a safe beach for a spot of swimming or water sports in the clean, clear blue water.

Just off shore, this rock is believed to be the birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. It’s a beautiful and romantic spot to walk to, on a picturesque stretch of coastline. You can’t climb on the rock and the sea can get rough, but paddle nearby or sit and listen to the waves.

Sample five excellent craft beers on a tour of Aphrodite's Rock Brewing Company. Mineral rich spring water is used to brew its handcrafted beers and ales, including Yorkshire Rose best bitter and Rock Premium Bavarian lager. After the tour you can pull up a pew at the Brewpub for a pint or two.
