Thanks to its sun-soaked climes, this part of the Peloponnese has plenty of homegrown goodness. Koroneiki olives and extra virgin olive oil is popular around these parts and good enough to rival the world-famous Kalamata olives that are from the neighbouring city. Sample them on top of a Greek salad, drizzled in oil.
The cool city of Kalamata is around an hour’s drive away and is the second-largest city in this region of Greece. Famed for its olives, it’s no surprise this bustling spot is a real hit with foodies, but there are plenty of opportunities for shopping, sightseeing and nightlife too. If you fancy mixing up those beach days, it’s the perfect option!
Peloponnese
Take the opportunity to discover the UNESCO-protected wonder that is the ancient city of Mystras. With so much of the city left intact for you to wander around and explore, you’ll get a real feel of the birthplace of the last Byzantine emperor, while taking in spectacular views from its hilltop setting.
Peloponnese
Welcome to one of the finest examples of classical architecture in the world. Thanks to its well-preserved structure and amazing acoustics, this 4th-century BC marvel makes for an exciting day trip – and some pretty spectacular souvenir snaps. The impressive monument is so incredibly intact that it’s still used today for performances and in summer it hosts the popular Athens Epidaurus Festival.
Peloponnese
Don’t miss out on this unique journey through the north of the Peloponnese. The Diakofto–Kalavryta Railway offers a scenic ride through the Vouraïkos Gorge. You’ll see the dramatic cliffs above and rushing rapids below as you pass by some incredible Peloponnese landscapes. So all aboard for a train ride like no other!
