Surrounded by an imaginative network of whitewashed shops, cafés and restaurants, the bottomless lake of Voulismeni is the perfect place to spend a cool afternoon stroll. By night, it’s illuminated by the warm glow of lights from shop windows and tavernas, making it such a pretty scene.
Only a short walk from Kitroplatia Beach, the marina’s a lively hub of activity. Indulge in seafood specials and steal a glance across the harbour to marvel at the many yachts rocking back and forth in the calm waters. Hop on a boat ride and see the islands for yourself.
Aghios Nikolaos, Crete (Heraklion Area)
Immerse yourself in the beautiful harbour surroundings of Aghios Nikolaos with a visit to one of the many bars, cafés and tavernas that line the waterfront. The food can be pricey, but well worth the money for the setting you’re in. Walk along the harbourfront and watch the boats as they moor up.

Meaning sand in Greek, Ammos Beach is found on the south side of Agios Nikolaos and it certainly lives up to its name, with a large stretch of white sand and calm blue waters that’s laden with umbrellas and loungers for you to rent. There’s also a marina nearby where you can watch the local boats as they moor up.

Ammoudi beach is located just one kilometre north of Agios Nikolaos’ city centre, in a large sheltered bay surrounded by luscious trees and buildings staggered across the hillside. The golden sands and shallow waters make it a perfect place for families, with many places to eat and drink around the beach area.
